2019-2020
Along with dumps I've found
scattered everywhere throughout the city,
there are portraits of my friends’ children.
Discarded toys trace a direction
toward the inevitable disaster
we are imposing on the generations of tomorrow.
This is the present of their future.
I spent almost three years photographing the degradation and the waste emergency in Reggio Calabria, my hometown. This is the first of two projects that came out from my research.
The original concept was supposed to be an open-air exhibition in the most exclusive and busiest street of the city but I was unable to get either permission or support from the municipality.
It's always more appropriate to look the other way.
